John Smith's bbq in NJ

packing for a camping trip is half the fun!

dog sitting duty in West Chester

Thursday night, about to head up to the Adirondack Mountains. Brian, Matt, Chris and myself have been making this excursion for about the past 10 years now.

plenty of room, by all means feel free to sprawl

ten minutes down the road...

3 hours down the road...

5.5 hours down the road...

filling up at the spring just off the highway

note the arrival time (we actually parked around 3:00)

it was raining and snowing as we geared up for the hike in. stoked!

Matt and I went ultralight this trip with bivy sacks instead of tents. what better way to test them out than in the rain and snow.

my setup was section 8 compared to Matt's

this picture was taken at 4:40 am right before I tucked myself in. at 4:43 it started pouring and didn't stop til about 9:00. awesome.

7:05 inside my bivy

my morning view

breakfast was served in Chris' tent

Harley gets dunked

on the trail to Mt. Dix

Pierre says "A loose hammy is a happy hammy"

Chris jots down a haiku at the lean-to

the hounds got stranded across the raging river

Harley made it but Hawkeye didn't quite trust himself to negotiate the rapids

our destination finally came into view. here's where the fun really started.

from here on out every step was a gain in elevation until we reached the peak

this is looking down the slide (from where we came)

sun to snow in a matter of minutes

these pictures really don't do these views justice, I highly recommend going and seeing it for yourself

you can get some idea of how steep the trail was

snow to sun

this little guy was a trooper. he wanted to get to the top as much as the rest of us.

the Abominable Pank

the top. Mt. Dix has just been crossed off the Bucket List. get some while you can kids.

nothing beats a campfire after 10 hours on the trail

actually scratch that, a hot bowl of Mac and Cheese is better

woke up to this. I love the woods.

lowering the bear bag

Saturday we hit the high seas!

it took Hawkeye awhile to find his sea legs

this is mid way through our hour long U-turn. looks like the Other Map Maker shoulda used the other map. (gotta give Matt credit for that one)

homeward bound

Sunday I needed a good bike ride to loosen up my legs. (10 hours of hiking + 3 hours of canoeing + 6.5 hours in a car = a wrenched back and stiff yams)

finally found the whispering bench!

Calder's sundial in the Botanical Garden

pissbreak

damn, I'd love to know the story behing this crime scene

Strawberry Mansion Bridge
