Sick Of It All/Virginville Film Fest/weekend in the Catskills

something had been weighing heavily on my mind and I need Jer's opinion on the matter

went to see Sick Of It All at the Church

My Turn To Win

Lehigh County Vo-Tech circa 1992 bitches

Wisdom In Chains was up next

just realized I only took about 5 pics during SOIA and they all sucked. here's a pre-wall of death shot. Friends Like You had me getting involved in the action.

en route to the Virginville Film Fest. sky was foreboding (I think I used "foreboding" in the right context)

crossing the one lane bridge

made it

tacos or chimichangas for 2 bucks...sold.

down in front

fun night. will attend again.

off to the Catskills for some deep woods camping/exploring action. First stop, Opus 40. look it up. fucking ridiculous. it was created by one man, bare hands, stone by stone. (note the rain. blessing in disguise as there was no one else there.)

the place remains unfinished since the guy died 37 years into it. (he gave himself 40 years to build it, hence Opus 40)

the pics don't do it justice. the place is huge with so many different levels and areas to explore. if you're ever up by Saugerties, NY I suggest you check it out.

the whole property is just crazy. so much random stuff.

then there's the Quarryman's museum on the second floor of the barn. place is ridiculous as well.

this place was like a wet dream for my brother

don't forget the 7 minute educational film on the first floor.

Katterskill Falls. just a preview before the big hike the next day.

me, Chris and Snotrag came across this place on a skate mission almost 6 years ago. it definitely warranted a return visit.

with a campsite acquired, fire and dinner were the next orders of business. one match by the way. (to be fair, the neighbors did donate a smoldering log from their fire to expediate the process since everything was totally DRENCHED. I am confident I would've gotten it started though. albeit 2 hours later)

obviously

quick campsite tour

beans were done. let's eat.

step 1

step 2

step 3

step 4

good night

good morning

lace 'em up. off to the trial.

these are the pussy falls that are right by the road

stellar scenery the whole way in. after a precarious water crossing it was a steep scramble (literally hand over fist) to get to the 2nd tier of the falls.

heading under the falls

I guess pretty much all of these pics look the same. I suggest seeing it in person.

looking back

looking out near the opposite side of falls

the trail out from under the falls on opposite side to head back down

the "path" back down was of the "choose your own adventure" variety. here's the view looking back up after the first section

great views on the way down as well

getting back down was a lot of fun

one last look on the way out

after breakfast at Maggie's (thanks to Matt for the heads up) it was off to North/South Lake for some hiking.

50 yards in it got fun

the trail followed the ridge pretty much the whole way up

the edge

where's my easel?

the weather was crazy. rain one minute. sun the next. cloudy to clear in as long as it took to soak in the scenery at each viewpoint.

back in the woods to this aggro-crag!

who remembers their rock classifications? wasn't sure if this was conglomerate or sedimentary.

Sunset Rock."Where memories are made."

sun peaking through

Newman's Ledge

couldn't hear the shutter click over the sound of my knees knocking

Dear Ron, Thanks for the boots. They are great. Have a nice summer. Your pal, Brett

I love wildlife photography!

North Point, offering some of the most breathtaking views of the Hudson and surrounding valleys. Oh well, guess I gotta go back.

if only I had packed my Pert Plus

natural occurring three

then it was back to the reality of city life. at least there were fireworks.

caused by a flood. left as a reminder.

Mickey and Gus, hard at work

great weekend
